About Me

My photo
I am usually typing on a computer most of the day, but today I am trying my hand at a new project: My 2011 365-Day Photo Journey. I gained a love for photography when I was required to take a fine arts class for college--I chose photography. The course required a lot of work--Professor Loehr saw to that--but it opened my eyes to a new world. It's been many years since I took that class and I don't know how much I actually remember, but following Laura Delagal's 365 Photo Journey and watching my niece's love for taking pictures has peeked my interested in photography again. Although I don't have a professional camera, I did receive a really nice Sony digital (point-and-shoot) camera from my sweetie for Christmas this year. Going through some difficult times in my life, I thought that undertaking my own 365-day photo journey might be a way to relieve a little stress and have some fun with my new toy. Through this journey I will capture some of life's joy and its pain, but I will also be able to refocus the lens of my life on the many wonderful things that God has created. Well, here goes. Wish me luck!

Day 175 - June 24, 2011

My daughter took me to dinner at San Miguel's.  Many of the family were there.   My daughter Kelly, her husband Bill, and their daughter Kellyanne; my sister Phyllis, her daughter Amanda, and Amanda's husband Joe and their daughter Madilyn, one of Phyllis' twin boys James; Bill's dad Ron and Ron's wife Cathy.  My dad and his wife, Mama Jean were able to make it because both were working and neither were two friends--Becky and Larry Shirley.

Chip anyone?

My daughter Kelly, and my granddaughter Kellyanne

This is two of the prettiest red-headed girls that I know.  I love them so much!!!

My niece, Madilyn (Madi)

When you come to San Miguel's for your birthday, they give you sweet tortitos with whipped cream on them and then they will give you a face full of whipped cream.  Surprise!  Happy Birthday!
Fortunately, my daughter asked them not to put the whipped cream in my face, so I just got the tortitos as a dessert.  Madi loved the tortitos with whipped cream on them, and SHE got the whipped cream all over HER faced and loved it!  I was more than happy to share it with her.  :-)

Happy Birthday to ME!

My day started off with a orangish/peach colored roses and some other flower sent to me by my dear sweet daughter and her husband and daughter (delivered to me by a dear friend), then my co-worker took me to lunch at the Palette Cafe (at the Mobile Museum of Art0, and ended with this great get together of friends.  And in the meantime, I received 70 plus birthday greetings on facebook.  All-in-all it was a great birthday.  Oh well, Melvin finally made it here about 10 p.m.  We celebrated my birthday on Saturday.

As Madi sang, Happy to You!

Day 134 - May 14, 2011

Come along with us for a day at the beach:

Melvin Moseley

Cheryl Kirkland
I normally wouldn't post this many photos, but we had a fun time at the beach today, and I had a fun time with Melvin's camera.  :-)  So indulge me please and enjoy!

No beach trip would be complete without the friendly, but pesky, seagulls.  They fly overhead constantly looking for a crumb of bread or potato chip.  When fed, you can just about guarantee that some unsuspecting beach-goer with have the pleasure of being annointed with bird poop.  Thankfully, neither one of us were blessed with their droppings.

This group of young people tried to build this pyramid several times, but they never got anyone on top.  They made it to this second level and sometimes would start to get someone on the next level when. . .

 . . . they all fall down!

Awesome!

Cool!
The water sprays made for some really cool photos.  Unfortunately, or fortunately, however you want to look at it, I only posted two of those really neat looking pics.

Melvin and I wanted to stay out on the beach to see the sun set and get some neat sunset pictures.  However, the sun set behind some buildings that were behind us, which didn't make for a really great photo.  Not to mention, as the sun started going down the temps started cooling off quite a bit, especially since the breeze had been blowing all day.   We had both changed into jeans and t-shirts, but it was still a bit too chilly for us.  So, we loaded up our gear and headed to to the truck.

All in all, we had a nice, relaxed day at the beach.   The water is so calming.   We both had fun taking photos (mostly with Melvin's camera b/c I couldn't see through the view screen on my camera).  I love spending time like this with my sweetie!  It doesn't get much better than this.

Day 61 - 3/2/2011

Nonna and her precious granddaughter, Kellyanne Elizabeth
Many months back friends begin to ask me what grandmother name I wanted to be called--it seems there's quite a variety these days.  Well, I really hadn't thought much about it.  I knew that I didn't want to be called Ma-maw, since my my kids called my mother Ma-Maw and I called my dad's mother Mamaw.  My children called their dad's mother Nanny, but somehow that just didn't seem to fit me.  I don't know exactly why, but perhaps it was because I just didn't feel that I could ever fill Nanny's shoes.  She was quite a woman!  Not that the other grandmothers weren't; it's just that Nanny really had a way with my children. Okay, so I knew the names I didn't want to be called, but I still had to decided what I wanted my grandchildren to call me.

I had heard some of my friends being called  Mimi, Cici, Gigi, Nanna (short a sound), & Nana (nah-nah), and perhaps a few names that I just can't recall at the moment.  But the name that stuck out to me came from one of my co-workers who is Italian.   Her grandchildren call her Nonna, which is Italian for grandmother.  I just love to here her say, Nonna (no - nah)--of course, it might sound so lovely because of her beautiful Italitan accent.  Anyway, I liked it so much, that I chose to be called Nonna myself.  Besides, I've always liked to be different than everyone else.  Seems like I knew a lot of Mimi's and Nanna's. But, a lot will depend on what Miss Kellyanne and Mr. Lachlan can and will say.  Whatever they choose, I know that I will love it.  I'm so very proud to be a grandmother, however they choose to say it!

God has blessed me with two precious grandchildren.  This is a picture of me with Kellyanne.  Obviously, I didn't take it.  My daughter Kelly took it. But I thought it was too special for it not to be my photo of the day.   I hope soon to post a photo of me and Lachlan, Clint's son.  His birthday is coming up later this month and, just maybe, we will get to take a road trip for his birthday.

Well, it's nite nite for this grandmother!  I know that I'm behind on visiting all of my 365 neighbors' blogs, but I hope to visit each of your sites over the next couple of days.

Goodnight and God Bless you,
Nonna (aka, Cheryl)

Day 48 - 2/17/2011

Becky Shirley - Reflection
It was another gorgeous day in Mobile.  So instead of eating in the caf, Becky and I decided to grab a hamburger from the Cloister and eat outside while enjoying the beautiful sunshine.  I took a pic of Becky sporting her shades and noticed that I could see my reflection in her sunglasses.  I tried several different angles to get the best reflection, and this photo turned out the best of the ones that I took.
